Marr Contracting has erected a Favco M2480D luffing tower crane at the Walsall Energy Recovery Facility. The crane has a maximum capacity of 330 tonnes and will carry out major lifts including boiler and economiser components. The crane is expected to remain on site until late 2026.

COMMENTS: High-capacity luffing tower cranes continue to be selected for UK energy and infrastructure projects.

A month after the Gold Coast crane incident, the Australian government issued a safety alert:

COMMENTS:
Incidents cannot be fully avoided, but strict safety measures minimize risk to people, equipment, and property.

Hong Kong Tower Crane Remote-Operation Requirement
Starting April 1, 2026, Hong Kong will require remote-operation and monitoring systems on government construction tower cranes. Each contract must include at least one remotely controlled crane, with cameras, latency limits, fail-safes, and operator training. Systems must allow reversion to cabin control and automatic shutdown on power or latency issues. The move aims to improve safety, reduce operator risk, and increase productivity, following demonstrations and practices in Israel, Britain, and Scandinavia.

COMMENTS:
Remote operation enhances safety and efficiency, but crews must remain trained for manual control and emergency response.
